About the Session

When the threat of Covid-19 subsided, Public Health England (PHE), alongside several of the organisations created to meet the needs of the pandemic, NHS Test and Trace and the Joint Biosecurity Centre, were amalgamated to form the new UK Health Security Agency.

With this came the challenge of bringing together the technical and infrastructure elements of these previously existing departments and streamlining them into a coherent, multi-cloud operation able to meet the UKHSA's future remit and achieve the scalability, reliability, security, sustainability, and cost efficiency required by the UK Government.

As an integral part of creating and hosting the NHS Test and Trace cloud platform used across the UK, BJSS brought this historic knowledge and deep understanding to address the key technology challenges of bringing together multiple historic agencies to form the UKHSA:

  • The management of multi-cloud platforms to increase resiliency with a need to standardise security, tooling and identity across all platforms.
  • Adopting a cloud-first approach across the department.

About the Speaker

Jonny Da Silva, Cloud Platform Product Owner & Senior Delivery Lead, UKHSA

Jonny has worked for the BBC, BT, Lockheed Martin, GSK, The American Broadcasting Company (ABC), Ministry of Justice, and he currently holds the Cloud Platform Product ownership at The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), managing infrastructure, operations, services, and business requirements to support over 100k internal users and millions of public service users.

Jonny has successfully managed and implemented cloud platform strategies to ensure cost efficiency and rapid service deployments across multi-cloud platforms. He can expend his multiple methodologies skillset amongst the teams to ensure key solutions are delivered on time and on budget.

He is a believer in the power of technology to accelerate progress in many organisations, supported by well-structured data science and intelligent automation for insight generation, so that teams work as a united front, with expertise and purpose, to solve the world’s toughest challenges.

Jonny has an Economics BA from The University of São Paulo, and a Computer Science & Business Management certification from Oxford International College.
